USAID supports health education in three regions

Cape Coast, Aug.24, GNA-The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) under its Focus Region Health Project (FRHP) is assisting health institutions in the Greater Accra, Central and Western Regions with 300,000 dollar training materials to help improve on health education.

A Team from the USAID on Tuesday made a donation of some of the materials which include birth stimulators, family planning modules, books on guidelines for clinical training and resuscitation equipment for training, to the Central Region Health Administration, for distribution to health institutions in the region.

Mr. Emmanuel Mensah, Regional coordinator of the FRHP, a member of the team who made the presentation, said the Project operates within the three regions to help improve the quality of service delivery through training.

He said its ultimate aim was to assist the regional institutions to impact on the various sub-structures of health services delivery for the overall improvement in health care.

Mr. David O’Brien, Chief Party of the FRHP, indicated that the materials would facilitate health training and that the package was “a chip” of a large consignment of equipment to be shipped into the country.

He called for collaboration between the Ministry of Health, Ghana Health Service and the FRHP to promote quality health care services in the country.

Ms. Susan Wright, the Deputy Chief of Health, Population and Nutrition of the USAID, said it was aimed at supporting the region’s health services in particular and the Ghana Health Service in general.

Nana Owusu Boampong, Deputy Director of Health, in-charge of administration, who received the materials, said the partnership between the Project and the Health Administration started about a year ago adding, he was impressed about the level of commitment by the parties involved.

He pledged that the Regional Health Administration would ensure that the materials were used to improve upon health education and service delivery in the region.
