US journalist holds workshop for reporters

Sunyani, Aug. 22, GNA – A US-based freelance journalist and public relations consultant, Mr. Herb Frazier, on Friday reminded journalists urged journalists to exercise maturity by cross-checking and ensuring balance in their reportage.

Mr. Frazier was speaking at a media workshop on election reporting organised by the Public Affairs Section of the US Embassy for journalists in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

The workshop evaluated and covered variety of topics on the role of the media in Ghana’s 2000 election, issues in the forthcoming election, spelling errors, credibility, reviewing old copies, content and good language usage and difficulties in engaging newsmakers. Mr. Frazier, who is also a writing coach, called on journalists to work extra hard and ensure good content development, while safeguarding potential electoral abuses to avoid the situation where readers cast doubts over their competencies and capabilities. He appealed to the media to raise the issues which mattered in an election year, which affected Ghanaians and pin candidates down on issues highlighted in their party’s manifestoes to help electorates to make informed choices. 22 Aug 08
