University of Education to get new council on Tuesday

The Minister of State in charge of Tertiary, Professor Kwasi Yankah, has disclosed that the new council for the University of Education, Winneba, (UEW) has been constituted and will be sworn into office on Tuesday, 18 July 2017.

“The council has been constituted and will be sworn in tomorrow morning,” he told Class News in an interview on Monday, 17 2017.

The constitution of a new governing council comes on the back of a legal tussle involving the school.

A private citizen Supi Kofi Kwayera obtained a court declaration dissolving the university’s governing council. Mr Kwayera argued that the existing council was illegal since their mandate expired in 2013.

The court ordered that the council be dissolved which effectively rendered the positions of the Vice Chancellor and Chief Finance Officer vacant since they were appointed by the council which was in office illegally.
