University authorities wants peace on campus

An official of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), has called on Students’ Representative Councils (SRCs), particularly those of the universities, to ensure a peaceful atmosphere at their respective campuses, for serious academic work to take place.

Nana Kwadwo Danso-Mensah, a Senior Assistant Registrar of the UCC, said SRCs were expected to act in concert with students towards finding solutions to problems facing their institutions.

This could assist in preventing violence and disturbances that often disrupted academic work, Nana Danso-Mensah told a workshop on the theme: “Student- a major stakeholder in peace building”, as part of the SRC week celebration at the UCC, Cape Coast.

The Senior Assistant Registrar noted that tertiary institutions in the country were notorious for demonstrations and violence and efforts should be made to reverse the trend, to facilitate teaching and learning.

Nana Danso-Mensah suggested that conflict resolution and problem-solving skills, be incorporated into the university curricula.
