Union executives condemn attempts to break-away

The new executives of the polytechnic branch of the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) have condemned the attempt by the former executives to break away from the union.

The explanation given by the predecessors was that TEWU could not get the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to put them on a good scale, but the executives said the allegation was unfounded knowing the untiring efforts by TEWU in tackling the problem.

A statement signed by the executives and issued in Accra on Friday said the issue was a national problem cutting across all public institutions.

It said: “The mere fact that they could not assign any cogent reason exposes them of their hidden agenda, and that was for their personal gains.”

The statement called on the rank and file to stand solidly behind TEWU and not allow themselves to be influenced by anyone.

Notwithstanding their action, the executives said their doors were opened should the former executives decide to come back.
