UK Minister for Africa calls on VEEP

The UK’s Minister in charge of Africa, conflict issues, climate change and intercontinental energy and MP for Boston and Skegness, Mark Simmonds, has joined numerous leaders across the globe to praise Ghana for what he describes as the impressive display of its democratic credentials at its just ended general elections and inaugurations.

He said Ghana has and continues to show the world that given the chance Africa can lead its people into economic freedom.

Hon. Mark Simmonds made these remarks after he led his delegation to pay a courtesy call of Vice President Amissah-Arthur at the Flagstaff House, Accra. The two discussed strategies of deepening the bond of friendship that exists between the two nations which dates back to the pre-independence era.

According to Vice President Amissah-Arthur Ghana enjoys its cordial relationship with the UK and expressed optimism in President Mahama to improve trade relations between the two countries.

This will be the Minister’s second visit to Ghana since he was appointed Parliamentary under-Secretary of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office on September 5, 2012.
