Tema, Aug. 30, GNA- Two security men of the Holy Fax Cold Store at the Tema Fishing Harbour who were charged with stealing 1,500 cartons of fish valued at 157.5 million cedis have been remanded by the Tema circuit court ‘B’.

John Abeka and Joseph Freeman Akuffo pleaded not guilty to aiding and abetting.

In the dock with them were Ben Yirenkyi, storekeeper, charged with stealing and Lydia Laryea, fishmonger, also charged with dishonestly receiving.

They pleaded not guilty, and the court granted them bail in the sum of 80 million cedis each with a surety, to re-appear on September 21. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Robert Aganiba, told the court that on March 23, this year, the Director of Holy Fax Cold Store at the Tema Fishing Harbour detected that 1,500 cartons of fish valued at 157.5 million cedis were missing from the cold store. DSP Aganiba said the Director reported the matter to the police, and this lead to the arrest of the two security men who were on duty on the day of the incident.

The prosecution said Lydia told the police that she received the fish from one Taller, and others now at large.
