Two Men Jailed 30 Years for Robbery and Sexual Assault on Teen Hairdresser

Two men have been handed a combined 30-year jail term with hard labour after being found guilty of conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery.

The convicts, Nicholas Tetteh and Joseph Tetteh, were each sentenced to 15 years in prison by the Gbetsile Circuit Court, presided over by Eleanor Kakra Barns Botchway, following their guilty plea.

According to a police statement signed by ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs for the Tema Police Command, the pair were involved in a robbery and sexual assault case that occurred on September 27, 2025, at Okushibli, along the Apollonia–Afienya road.

Per the report, the two attacked a 19-year-old hairdresser, robbing her of an iPhone XR and a handbag containing GH¢150 after dragging her into a nearby bush, where she was sexually assaulted.

Investigations revealed that the victim had hired Nicholas Tetteh, a motor rider, to take her to Afienya. However, along the way, he conspired with Joseph Tetteh and another suspect to carry out the attack.

The matter was reported to the Zenu-Atadeka District Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), which led to the swift arrest and charging of the suspects for robbery and rape.

Following an intelligence-led police operation, the two were apprehended, prosecuted, and convicted on the robbery charge by the Gbetsile Circuit Court.

ASP Dzakpasu added that the Attorney-General’s Office is currently reviewing the docket, and the convicts will face separate arraignment on the rape charge once the necessary legal advice is received.

She reiterated the police’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims of violent crimes and maintaining public safety across the Tema Region.
