Two players from the Ghana Premier League have earned call-ups to the Black Stars squad for the decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Central African Republic and Comoros this month.
Medeama Sporting Club’s midfield dynamo, Prince Owusu, and Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare, have been handed spots in Otto Addo’s 24-man list. Their inclusion comes as a boost for the local league, highlighting the growing recognition of home-based talent in the national setup.
Ghana will first face the Central African Republic in Meknès, Morocco, on 8 October before returning home to the Accra Sports Stadium to take on Comoros in their final qualifier on 12 October.
The call-ups of Owusu and Asare have been welcomed by many fans, who see their presence as a chance to prove that local players can compete at the highest level. For Owusu, it marks his first opportunity to stamp his authority in the national team midfield, while Asare will be looking to challenge for a starting spot among Ghana’s goalkeepers.
The Black Stars will need strong performances in both fixtures to secure their place at the 2026 World Cup, with the nation’s hopes firmly pinned on the blend of experienced internationals and emerging talents.
