Train children to be peacemakers – Parents told

Winneba, Dec 26, GNA – Parents and guardians have been told to train their children to become true peacemakers in their homes, communities and the country.

This home training is essential for the laying of a solid foundation for lasting national peace, stability, unity and reconciliation needed for sustained social, economic and spiritual advancement of the country.

The Senior Bishop’s Deputy of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, the Right Reverend Godfred Zormelo, made the call at a Church service at Winneba on Sunday.

He charged Christians parents and guardians to take the initiative and implement the Proposed “peacemakers” training programme in their homes, adding that, they should follow the divine principle that they should make sure that their children were humble, respectful and modest both at home and outside.

The Rt. Rev. Dr Zormelo urged Christians to lead decent lives in the face of the “mounting worldly problems” to maintain their image as true followers of Jesus Christ Jesus.

He asked Christians not to allow merry making to undermine the true spiritual importance of Christmas and to turn over a new leaf for others to follow.

The Rt. Rev. Dr Zormelo asked them to use the period to educate and reconcile their brothers, sisters and neighbours to live together in peace to promote their material and spiritual well being in the coming year.

He also charged Christian businessmen, traders, bankers and public office holders to work honestly to promote the economic progress of their fellow human beings and the nation.

They should also ask for the forgiveness of their sins and pledge to perform creditably in the years ahead.

The Senior Bishop’s Deputy later led the congregation to pray for lasting peace, unity, stability and progress for the nation and advised Ghanaians to be guided by the peace, which characterised the recent general elections and to support the efforts of the government to improve the living condition of Ghanaians particularly the poor.
