Trader jailed for stealing fruit drink

Sekondi, Oct. 21, GNA – Sekondi District Magistrate Court “A” on Friday sentenced John Petro, a Cape Coast based trader to nine months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing one bottle of Marula Fruit Cream Drink, valued at 100,000 cedis. He pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Andam Okyere, said on October 17 this year, the accused visited his cousin at Tarkwa. He said on his way back to Cape Coast the following day, he went to Shoprite Store at Market Circle, Takoradi. Sergeant Okyere said the accused picked the drink, put it in his side pocket and covered it with his shirt.

He said a security man at the store saw the accused putting the drink in his pocket and when he was leaving without paying for it, he was intercepted, searched and the drink was found on him. Sergeant Okyere said the accused was, therefore, arrested and handed over to the Police.
