Top journalist claims the focus of the fight against galamsey is misplaced

Ace journalist and managing editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwasi Pratt Jnr, is of the opinion that the government needs to change its focus, with regard to the fight against illegal mining, popularly called ‘galamsey’.

The present administration, has over the past five months dedicated resources and efforts towards the fight against illegal mining. The president, has on several occasions, reiterated his determination to clamp down on the menace. Pratt is of the opinion that the national fight, should be directed towards the protection of water bodies.

He went ahead to claim that some companies in the mining industry are culprits in the ‘galamsey’ business, hence there is the need for a more comprehensive approach in dealing with the issue.

He argued that water, particularly for domestic use, should be safe for consumption. He further claimed that there was once a river in the Western region, which was polluted to the extent that all of its fishes did.

He stated that it was the multi – national corporation that was responsible, but not the activities of illegal miners.
