The Togolese branch of the International Police Organisation (Interpol) has handed over four suspected criminals to its counterpart in Ghana.
They are Ibrahim Omorou, a 30-year old Nigerien and Yakubu Adam, 35, a Ghanaian, who were both arrested in Lome with 37 cattle, allegedly stolen from Tamale some time this month. The rest are Edward Prince Yebo, 27, salesman, who absconded with ?38.1 million belonging to an Accra company, and Mawunyo Kagbeto, who escaped from Police custody in Tema early this year.
Mr Akate Ateifeitom Poyode, Togolese Commissioner of Police in charge of the Togo side of the border, told the Ghana News Agency that following a tip-off, Omorou and Adam were arrested on Wednesday, June 13, at Togblekofe, near Lome with the cattle. Mr Poyode said Omorou and Adam were suspected to have entered Togo with the animals through the Ghana-Togo border, in the north to sell the animals in Lome.
He said Yobo, whose picture was published in the June 14 edition of the Daily Graphic, as a wanted person, was arrested at Hotel Colombe, Lome, where he was hiding, while Kagbeto was also arrested at a hideout in Lome. He said the Togolese and Ghanaian security agencies have intensified their collaborative operations to curb cross-border crimes.
