Accra, March 7, GNA – About 2,000 “Kayayee” (female porters), commercial (trotro) drivers and their mates, on Monday received free medical care with dispensing products sponsored Tigo Mobile Network to commemorate the 54 years of Ghana’s Independence at the Tema Lorry Station, in Accra.

Millicom Ghana, operators of Tigo mobile network committed about GH¢35,000 for the exercise, which brought together a medical team from MED-X Health Systems, a private health insurance company.

Prior to the exercise, which comes under Tigo’s corporate responsibility of supporting communities and improving lives, breakfast was provided to the gathering amidst the registration of Sim Cards and education on the company’s products such as Tigo Family Insurance, Tigo Cash, among others.

Mr Titus Tetteh Nanor, Public Relations Manager of Tigo, said providing care and giving back to the society had always been Tigo’s concern as it sought partnership to deliver high impact and measurable benefits to people.

The beneficiaries, he said, were made to undergo various tests to determine their status and provided with counseling services on body mass index, diabetes, high blood pressure and related ailments such as malaria, worm infestation and fever. “Togo strongly believes that it is essential for these groups of women and their dependants to have a clean bill of health in order to provide the needed services to both traders and their customers,” Mr Enoch Vanderpuye, Tigo’s Advertising and Media Manager said.

Mr Vanderpuye added that the free medical screening tied in with Tigo’s core values of integrity, respect and passion, which enjoin the company to support communities and improve the quality of lives of people.
