‘The church must help society to overcome poverty’

The Anglican Primate and Archbishop of the Internal Province of Ghana, the Most Reverend Professor Daniel Yinkah-Sarfo, has asked the church to do more to help the society to overcome poverty and other social deprivations.

It should use substantial part of its financial resources to address the physical needs of the people, adding that, it must also be bold to speak out against the wrongs in the society.

The Most Rev Prof Yinkah-Sarfo was preaching at a special service held to mark the 90th anniversary celebration of the Saint Francis Assisi Anglican Church in Asante-Bekwai.

“90 years of establishment, missions and challenges” was the theme for the event that brought together a large crowd of faithful from far and near.

It was also used to inaugurate a new church building constructed to provide more space for the growing congregation.

The Anglican Archbishop called for intensification of the church’s evangelism to assist the people to reject indiscipline and impunity.

It should do everything to reach everybody, regardless of geographical location with the gospel – to act properly and refuse to be part of anything evil and ungodly.

The Most Rev Prof Yinkah-Sarfo said the church must be dynamic, to transform the people – to become tolerant of each other and accept to live in peace and harmony.

He paid tribute to its founders for the great efforts they made and urged especially the youth to be inspired by their sacrifices to work with zeal to promote the development and growth of the church.

Madam Mary Juntuah, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), saluted the church for its immense contribution to the development of the nation, citing its construction of schools, health and water facilities.

Nana Kaakari Apau II, Omanhene of Bekwai, urged the church to continue to preach peace, love and unity and said that was the way to progress.
