Tensions Mount in Ablekuma North as NPP Plans Major Press Conference Over Election Rerun

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ablekuma North is set to hold a major press conference in the coming days, as anxiety builds among constituents ahead of a controversial parliamentary election rerun in 19 out of 37 polling stations.

The Electoral Commission (EC) recently announced plans to rerun parts of the December 7, 2024 parliamentary election in the constituency, citing unresolved disputes over the authenticity of results. The announcement has triggered widespread discontent among supporters of the NPP and its parliamentary candidate, Akua Afriyie, who claim the initial collation process was nearly complete.

Ahead of the press briefing, several party officials and residents have accused the EC of shifting its stance, raising questions about transparency and fairness in the electoral process.

The upcoming press conference is expected to provide a platform for the NPP to clarify its position, push back against the EC’s decision, and rally support from constituents who believe the rerun is unnecessary and politically motivated.

A source within the party hinted that the NPP may also use the opportunity to demand accountability from the Electoral Commission and urge the public to resist what they describe as an “attempt to subvert the will of the people.”

This latest development adds to growing political tension in the constituency, which has historically been a stronghold for the NPP. All eyes will be on the press conference as stakeholders brace for a crucial next step in the electoral standoff.
