NO-one involved with a Tenbury based charity was caught up in a petrol station explosion in Ghana.
The explosion at the petrol station in the Ghana capital Accra is believed to have killed at least 78 people many of whom are believed to have been sheltering from the heavy rain.
Staff and volunteers working for the Tenbury based charity Village by Village use the station but in a statement the chief executive Neil Kerfoot said no-one involved with the charity had been hurt.
“We were in Accra yesterday and it had been raining hard so many people must have been huddled under that roofing,” said Mr Kerfoot, speaking the day after the explosion.
“As you know, we work and live in Ghana and the petrol station that exploded is one we use to fill the Land Rovers. It really makes you think.”
Village by Village works to help alleviate poverty among some of the poorest communities in Africa.
