Teacher’s arm slashed, face disfigured

Two persons, arrested for allegedly slashing off a teacher’s hand and disfiguring his face at Putubiw in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District of the Central Region, have been remanded into Prison custody.

The Cape Coast Circuit Court charged John Kwesi Mensah, 23, a driver’s mate and Richard Amenfi, 23 with a common purpose to commit crime and attempted murder.

Their pleas were not taken and would be re-arraigned on Monday, January 12, 2015.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Okyere Andam, who prosecuted, prayed the court presided over by Mr Kofi Seshie Ametewee to remand the accused persons since investigations had not reached the expected stage due to the victim’s condition.

Narrating the facts of the case, he said the victim; Mr Kofi Enyarko, is a teacher residing at Wiomua. On the evening of Tuesday, November 18, Mr Enyarko travelled to Putubiw to collect money from his father.

ASP Andam said at about 1900 hours that same day when Mr Enyarko was returning to Wiomu through a footpath in a sugar cane farm, an unidentified person chanced upon him and inflicted cutlass injuries on his face and also cut off his left arm.

He said Mr Enyarko, bleeding profusely, raised the alarm which attracted one Kofi Kakra, who lived at the outskirt of the town, and was rushed to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital and admitted for treatment.

He said on Saturday December 6, and Thursday December 25, at 1900 hours, Mensah and Amenfi, were allegedly seen and heard by someone, discussing a mission to kill 10 people and drain their blood and remove some organs in their bodies.

He said the witness then informed the police and the two suspects were arrested but denied the offence in their caution statement.
