Teacher fined five million cedis

Tema, Sept 28, GNA — A teacher who shot his girlfriend with a pistol at Community 11 has been fined five million cedis by the Tema Circuit Court ‘B’.

In addition, Emmanuel Bright Mensah is to pay an additional five million cedis as compensation to the woman.

Mensah pleaded not guilty to the charge and will go to prison for three years if he fails to pay the fine and the compensation. Police Chief Inspector Edith Nutakor told the court that on October 18, 2001, the victim, a hairdresser, who previously had a love relationship with the accused person, was returning from the bathroom when she saw him standing at the back of her window.

The prosecution the accused person pulled a pistol, shot his former girlfriend and bolted. The victim was taken to the Tema General Hospital where she was admitted.

Chief Inspector Nutakor said a report was made to the Community Two police.
