Taxi driver in court for insulting Police Officer

A taxi driver, who hurled insults on a Police Officer, was on Monday granted a GHC3,000 bail with two sureties to be justified, by the Sunyani District Magistrate Court ‘A,’ presided over by Mr. Kwame Ohemeng Mensah.

Stephen Tawiah Narh, 34, who was charged with offensive conduct pleaded not guilty when he appeared before the Court, and he would re-appear on Monday June 15.

The Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Ernest Nyarko Donyina, told the Court that on May 7, around 1500 hours the complainant who is a policewoman stationed at the Visibility Unit of the Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Headquarters was on duty in the Sunyani Business District.

He said, some taxi drivers, including the accused person, parked and loaded their vehicles at a prohibited area, but the policewoman ordered them to move away.

Chief Inspector Donyina said around 2045 hours, the accused person who drove a hyundi taxi cab went back to where the policewoman was on duty, cast insinuations and hurled insults on her.

He said the complainant made a report to the police, and the accused person was consequently arrested.
