Tarkwa Police briefs media, political parties on election preparation

The Tarkwa Divisional Commander of the Ghana police service, Assistance Commissioner of Police (ASP) Paul Ayitey, has met the media and political parties in the Tarkwa Nsueam constituency to brief them on their preparation towards effective security in the forthcoming election.

According to him, the divisional command was putting up a master-plan to ensure that all areas of security were covered.

Speaking at an emergency meeting on Monday, which was attended by some constituency executives of the National Democratic Congress, New Patriotic Party, Progressive Peoples Party and the Deputy Superintendents of Police for Enchi, Prestea and Asankrangwa, all in the Western Region, the commander said he had requested for more personnel from the regional and national level to improve their strength.

He said in addition to a team of security officers, who would be patrolling the Municipality during, before and after the election, his outfit had proposed two officers in all the polling stations.

ASP Ayitey said elections in Tarkwa over the years had been peaceful and that the Police would work tirelessly to maintain it.

He, however, warned supporters and political parties to avoid the use of macho-men in the name of protecting ballot boxes on December 7, for their candidates, adding that the Police would deal drastically with anyone who commits such offense to distract the electoral process.

The divisional commander entreated the media to be circumspect with their reportage and the kind of programmes they broadcast.

ASP Ayitey pledged to give equal protection to all political parties in the Municipality.
