Takoradi Sub-Metropolitan Council formed

Takoradi, (Western Region) 25 Jan. ’99,

The Takoradi Sub-Metropolitan Council has been established with Alhaji Abdulai Seidu, former Member of Parliament for Effia-Kwesimintsim, as chairman. Speaking to newsmen on Saturday, Alhaji Seidu said the council would soon come out with sanitation programmes to promote

environmental cleanliness in the metropolis. He appealed to residents of Takoradi and visitors to keep the area clean by using dustbins placed at various points instead of throwing rubbish onto the streets and into gutters. He called on the town council and unit committees to ensure that the sanitation programmes are carried out. Those who are in arrears of their rates should settle them before the metropolitan assembly comes out with new rates.

The sub-metropolitan council would among other functions, be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the area, number and keep records of all rateable property and collect all rates and taxes levied by the assembly and protect and safeguard public health.
