Suspend Zoomlion from operating in Ghana – AFAG

The Alliance for Accountable Governance is calling on the government to suspend private waste management company Zoomlion from engaging in any transaction with the state.

The group says the company’s recent debarring by the World Bank over a bribery incident in Liberia is an embarrassment to Ghana.

Describing the happening as a blot on Ghana’s reputation, AFAG says the government should capitalize on the incident to seriously consider enacting a law to govern the conduct of Ghanaian businesses globally.

The Director of Operations of AFAG, Davis Opoku Ansah, told XYZ News, this will serve as a deterrent to other indigenous companies.

“When you look at Zoomlion’s operations, a chunk of their dealings are with government. If government holds off their contracts, it will serve as a deterrent and an example to any company that would want to enter an international market,” he said.

The World Bank (WB) has debarred the waste management company for two years in Liberia. Within that period, Zoomlion will not benefit from any WB contract in the West African country.
