Support the upkeep of orphans

Obuasi, Jan. 11 GNA—Benevolent Organisations and other business enterprises have been urged to support the proper upkeep of inmates at the various Orphanages in the country. Mr. Isaac Newton-Kusi, the President of AngloGold Ashanti Senior Staff Benevolent Society at Obuasi, who made the call said managing orphans, destitute and abandoned children was capital intensive hence the need for Orphanages to be supported.

He was speaking at a short ceremony during which the society donated a number of items including three bags of rice, a bag of sugar, a carton of sardine, edible oil, cartons of milk and key bar soap worth more than two million Cedis to the Adullam Orphanage at Obuasi. Mr. Newton-Kusi said the donation was to support the food requirement of the Orphanage.

On his part, Mr Emmanuel K. Boadu, the Secretary of the Society, said before the donation to the Orphanage, the Society was extending its benevolence to only its members.

He was hopeful that their modest contribution would go a long way to help improve the health of the children there.

“For a start we are presenting these items to Adullam Orphanage to help improve the upkeep and health of the orphans “, Mr Boadu added. Mrs Louise Timothy, the Founder of the Orphanage said they were grateful for the donation, noting that, “the tin fish in particular will assist us to supplement the nutrients of the young children”.
