Sunyani, March 21, GNA – The Sunyani Municipal Health Insurance Scheme has signed a memorandum of understanding with six private clinics to implement the scheme in the municipality this year.
Mr Kwame Twumasi-Awuah, the Municipal Chief Executive said at a meeting in Sunyani that the private health institutions are Owusu Memorial Clinic, located at the Estates, Health Lane Clinic at Nkwabeng, Green Hill Clinic, near Kassadjan, Penkwase Clinic at Penkwase, Rafchik Clinic, near St. James Seminary Secondary School at Abesim and Opoku Clinic at Nkwabeng.
He said the municipal scheme had performed creditably and has paid its bills to health institutions.
Mr Twumasi-Awuah said the government was determined to widen the scope of operations of the scheme to ensure that all registered members easily have access to quality health delivery, hence the inclusion of private hospitals and clinics.
He said registration for the scheme had been re-opened and appealed to the general public, especially those who could not register last year, to register.
Mr Kwame Gyamfi, the Scheme Manager, said the Board of Directors of the scheme would hold review meetings every three months with the private clinics to ensure the scheme’s sustainability.
He said even though the scheme had started operations with the private clinics with an agreed fee being charged, it was waiting for the National Insurance Council to give accreditation to those clinics. Dr Aaron Asare of Health Lane Clinic thanked the Board of Directors of the scheme for the inclusion of private health institutions and gave the assurance that the clinics would work to ensure the scheme’s sustainability.
