Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC),Kofi Adams believes the just ended National Delegates Congress which saw the election of Professor Mills as the party’s flagbearer to lead them into the 2012 General Polls was not free and fair.
He accuses some elements within the NDC of using money to entice the delegates to vote for President Mills.
In an interview with Citi FM, the Spokesperson for Mr Rawlings said the outcome of the election clearly indicates that the delegates had not represented themselves.
He, however, expressed gratitude to all the delegates who were bold enough to vote for the former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings.
Obviously disappointed at the election results, Kofi Adams said though Nana Konadu had the backing of most of the supporters at the grassroots level, the delegates decided to do otherwise, adding that the former First Lady cannot be faulted for responding to the call of those who wanted her to contest the presidential primary.
“…when supporters do one thing and delegates do the other that is what happens…We don’t intend to challenge the results. We take it like that and we wish the party all the best. The fact that she didn’t win, does not mean that out there, she is not endorsed or liked by the majority. It is for the good of the party that Nana Konadu responded but the delegates decided to do a different thing…,” he added.
To him, if the delegates believe President Mills is the best candidate the NDC has to lead the party in the next general elections, so be it.
“It is their conviction and that is what they have done. If we continue to do otherwise, the party will become weaker. However, I wish the party all the best…,” he stated.
