Sub-standard pre-schools to be shut down

The Department of Social Welfare has vowed to shut down all sub-standard and unauthorized pre-schools in the country.

The Ashanti Regional Director of the Department, Jacob Achulo has indicated that day-care centers whose facilities did not meet the required standard will not be allowed to operate.

Speaking to the press in an interview in Kumasi, Mr. Achulo noted that the department was determined to ensure that the right things were done for the safety of the children.

Mr Achulo underlined the critical importance of pre-school education to the nurturing of children in their formative years, stressing why the centers needed to be properly supervised.

The Deputy Director in-charge of child rights promotion and protection, Patricia Kyeremanteng Berchie on her part advised proprietors to engage the right people at the centers.

She said proprietors must also pay the workers’ Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) contributions to ensure their future financial security.
