SPRINGVILLE, Utah, USA ? Students from Grant Elementary will sell necklaces and bracelets made with beads from Ghana at the Springville Wal-Mart, 660 S. 1750 West, on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Money from the sale will go to the charity Families for Children International, based in Provo, to help build an orphanage and school in Cape Coast, Ghana. Two teachers from Grant Elementary plan to help build the school this summer.
The beads on the necklaces and bracelets have been shipped to Utah from the West African nation. The students then assembled them. The beads are described as colorful. Many were hand-made.
The Grant teachers, Andrea Facer and Michelle McMaster, also plan to take to Ghana books Utah schoolchildren made and had printed. They will distribute the books to teachers in Ghana, who often have to teach children by memorization because of a lack of books. English is the official language in Ghana. Some of the books will go to the future orphanage school.
