Miotso (GA/R), Nov 14, GNA – A 12-member Executive Council has been inaugurated for the Central University College Chapter of the Ghana Pharmaceutical Students Association (GPSA) at the Miotso Campus of the University, near Prampram, with a call on Pharmacy Students to strive for excellence in all spheres of their training.
Dr Alex Dodoo, President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana, who performed the induction, said by so doing, the students could, afterwards, serve their motherland in whatever capacity they found themselves. Mr Emmanuel Kwaku Ireland is the President of the Executive Council, with Mr Edwin Tamakloe as the Vice.
The other Executive officers are: Miss Gifty Nancy Hoegah (General Secretary); Mr Vincent Ofori Darkwah (Organising Secretary); Miss Evelyn Addison (Assistant Secretary); and Mr Stephen Dzogbenu (Financial Secretary).
The rest are: Miss Esi Abasoa Annan (Treasurer); Mr Alex Kow Mensah (International Relations Officer); Mr Yahya Kabiru (Public Relations Officer); Mr Abdul Rahman Malik (Chief Editor); and Mr Ebenezer Kwoffie (Class Representative).
Dr Dodoo stressed the need to provide the students with proper training to enable them to become responsible, motivated and focused. He reminded them that as students of the 21st century, “it is only the prepared, the ready and the focused who will achieve success in this dynamic, fast, and ever-changing world.” He advised student-pharmacists to develop the right attitudes, because the wrong attitude could cause even the most gifted student to become a poor pharmacist incapable of delivering excellent and quality pharmaceutical care.
Dr Dodoo advised pharmacists to ensure that patients got the best out of their medicines with little or no untoward negative effects be they clinical, social or financial.
He paid glowing tribute to the founding fathers of the Association for their vision and foresight, and urged the students not to complacent, but to strive to achieve set goals. Professor Victor Gadzekpo, President of the University, urged the Association to work hard in order to become a force to reckon with. On behalf of the Council, Mr Ireland pledged that it would endeavour to inculcate a sense of duty, that is: professional pride and confidence in members to ensure that pharmacists of high ethical and professional standards were produced.
Mr Ireland pledged the executives’ determination to build a strong foundation so that their successors could take up from there. Prof. Paa Kobina Turkson, Dean of the School of Applied Sciences, who chaired the function, urged the executives to see themselves as servants and execute their duties with diligence, humility and dedication, and not to lord it over the other members of the Association. 14 Nov. 09
