Akim Achiase (E/R), Oct. 7, GNA – Dr Kwasi Akyem Apea-Kubi, Eastern Regional Minister, has expressed worry about the poor state of roads in the Akyem Traditional areas which include Akyem Kotoku, Akyem Abuakwa and Akyem Bosome. He did not understand why for more than 10 years, roads in those areas had not been attended to when the people always exercised their franchise with the expectation that development would be brought to their communities.
“The good news, however, is that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has come
to make lives more comfortable for the people of Ghana, and Akyem areas are strongly
part of it,” he declared. 93Funds to begin road construction and rehabilitation have been
received and work will soon begin.” Dr Apea-Kubi indicated that the NDC was the party to first extend electricity to the
Akyem areas and it was also the first to provide good roads to the people of Akyem and
since then, no other government had paid attention to the plight of the people in those
areas. He said the NDC government was made up of caring members of Parliament= and
Ministers who were ready to meet the needs of their respective people and were also
persons who could 93dribble their ways” through to get funds for developmental projects in
their areas. Dr Apea-Kubi said, as an indigene of the Akyem land, he was not happy to see his
homeland in a poor state and that he would do everything within his means to lobby for
more developmental projects for the people of Akyem, especially Achiase, where he was
born. “Development of this area is on my heart and so if you hear that I have stolen
anything thing from government, it will be the schools, good water systems and good
roads that I will steal for my people,” he stressed. The Regional Minister said plans had been drawn to immediately renovate the Achiase
Senior High School where two new dormitories, a dining hall and a computer laboratory
would be added to make learning serene for students. Mr Baffour Mensah Takyi, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Birim South, entreated
everyone to ensure they took part in the voters’ registration towards the 2012 general
election but cautioned that they should not engage in double registration. “Let us avoid violence during the election because peace is all what we need for the
development of this country,” he said. 93Let us do politics of issues and not of insults,
backbiting and violence.” Mr Mensah Takyi called on the people in the district to pay their taxes for the
development of their communities.
