More than 500 teachers in the Upper West Region are in a dilemma as to whether they should submit a new entry form or wait for a waiting list to be released for promotion.
The teachers, who attended interviews last year for promotion, had not received their promotion letters and are now confused as to whether to reapply for this year’s promotion interviews or to wait for last year’s results.
A source at the Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency on condition of anonymity said the exercise was carried out in November and December last year involving 861 applicants.
The positions that were applied for include “Director 2”, “Deputy Director”, “Assistant Director 1”, “Assistant Director 2” and “Principal Superintendent”.
The source said while applicants for Assistant Director 2 and Principal Superintendent are yet to receive their appointment letters, the rest had received their promotion letters.
“This situation exists only in the Upper West Region because the other nine regions have all released these appointment letters”, the source said.
“The big issue here is that, applicants for Assistant Director 2 are all graduate teachers, who are teaching in the Senior High Schools. “Would these teachers be able to concentrate in class”, the source asked.
The teachers are now contemplating whether to submit new entries or wait for the results of last year’s interview to be released.
Meanwhile, the deadline for the submission of new entries for this year is August 29.
The teachers are appealing to the authorities to come out and tell them what has become of their promotion letters, saying “the big question is who is holding these appointment letters?”
It is the mandate of the Ghana Education Service to conduct interviews for the promotion of teachers, which is organised each year in the country.
