Sekyere East gears for assembly elections

Ninety-six candidates have filed their papers to contest district assembly elections in the 27 electoral areas in the Sekyere Central District.

Briefing the press at Nsuta on February 4 Mr Raymond Nartey, the district electoral officer, said out of the number 89 are males and 7 females.

He mentioned Asokwa electoral area at Nsuta as the only place where Nana Abenaa Serwaah Ampaafo, Nsuta Sompahemaa, is the only candidate.

The electoral officer said 176 candidates are contesting the Unit Committee elections, 159 are males and 17 females.

In an interview with some electorates at Beposo, they expressed concerned with environmental sanitation especially waste disposal sites in the town as well as access to good drinking water and said they would vote for people who are committed to address the problem.

They said they could not understand why only half of the town had access to pipe borne water leaving the other half unattended to.
