Security personnel in the Brong-Ahafo Region on Thursday undertook a two-hour route march through some principal streets in Sunyani to demonstrate their readiness and commitment for national stability and to promote social cohesion.
They were made up of 200 personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prison Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority and Ghana National Fire Service.
Mr Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister addressing the personnel at a parade at the Jubilee Park, commended them for their roles in a peaceful Election 2012.
He said the high level of professionalism they exhibited during the elections had made Ghana proud in the international community.
Mr Nyamekye-Marfo admitted that though there were a lot of challenges within the security agencies which seemed insurmountable, the government had taken immediate steps to address some of them especially the perennial accommodation problems.
He said the Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Command had been provided with 90 vehicles and modern communication gadgets and gave the assurance that similar assistance would be provided to other security agencies in the Region.
Mr Nyamekye-Marfo expressed concern that chieftaincy disputes continued to threaten peace in the Region but commended the Regional, Municipal and District Security Councils for their prompt response in maintaining peace.
Lieutenant-Colonel Cornelius Kobla Lithur, Commanding Officer of Third Battalion of Infantry, told newsmen that the exercise was to deepen and strengthen the relationship between the security agencies and the general public.
He gave the assurance that the security agencies were alert to prevent activities likely to affect the prevailing peace in the country.
