Saminu Falls Short Of 100m Final At World Athletics Championships

Ghana’s Abdul-Rasheed Saminu has missed out on a place in the men’s 100m final at the World Athletics Championships after finishing fourth in his semi-final heat.

The 22-year-old clocked 10.08 seconds in Heat 3, narrowly missing the cut as Jamaica’s Oblique Seville and Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo sealed qualification spots.

Saminu, who earlier this season set a blistering 9.84s to become Ghana’s national record holder, had gone into the championships as one of Africa’s most exciting prospects. But despite a strong start, he couldn’t find the extra burst needed to reach the final.

While disappointed, his performance is being hailed as a sign of Ghana’s growing sprinting potential, especially with several young athletes now making their mark on the world stage.
