Sale of houses to workers will go on as promised – Edumadze

Cape Coast, Feb. 17, GNA – Modalities for the sale of low cost houses to sitting tenants, most of them workers, are being worked out to facilitate their sale to help solve housing problems facing workers in the country, as promised by the government.

The Central Regional Minister, Mr Isaac Edumadze, who announced this at an end-of-year-party for regional heads of department on Monday said details as to how much the houses would be sold and when such sales would begin, would be made known to all by August this year. The reception was to enable the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) and the heads, to take stock of the past year’s activities and plan ahead.

The Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Mr Yaw Osafo-Marfo, announced government’s intention to offer low cost houses for sale to workers, in the 2004 budget.

Mr Edumadze commended the heads for their hard work and support and described them as a “hard-working back up team, without whom he could not have achieved anything in the region.”

He urged them to endeavour to make more constructive contributions to accelerate the socio-economic development of the region, and suggested that they nominated a dean from amongst them, to serve as a link between them and the RCC.

The Regional Coordinating Director was, however, unhappy that only a few heads of department had submitted their annual reports as at the end of last month and pointed out that the submission of such reports was mandatory and gave the defaulting heads up to Friday February 20, to do so.

He also reminded them about the forthcoming voter registration exercise and urged them to encourage their staff to register to make the exercise a success.
