Rotaract Club of Adenta supports Wa-Yiri Orphanage

Accra, June 30, GNA – The Rotaract Club of Adenta, a charitable organisation affiliated to Rotary International, has donated building materials valued at 1,000 Ghana Cedis to support the rehabilitation of the Wa-Yiri Orphanage, in the Upper West Region. The donation was in fulfilment of a pledge the club made to the management of the orphanage two years ago, to refurbish the structures that were gutted by fire leading to the displacement of the orphans. Miss Anne- Marie Djan, the out-going President of the Rotaract Club who handed over the items to Mr Obed Bundi, a representative of the orphanage in Accra, said the gesture was in line with the goals of members made up of young professionals between the ages of 18 and 30, to undertake public- spirited programmes.

The club receives sponsorship from Rotary Club of Accra North. Miss Djan expressed the hope that the donation would help to provide an enabling environment to the unfortunate children. She said last year Rotaract donated blood and medical items to the Princess Marie Louise Children’s Hospital in Accra. The club has adopted Otinibi community in Ga West District, where they supplied assorted supplementary books to the local library project and organised a quiz competition between the pupils of Otinibi Community School and the Amrahia Community School. Mr Bundi commended the club for coming to the aid of the orphanage, saying the facility lack a number of basic needs to make life comfortable for the children.

Papa Seyram Agbonyitor, incoming President of the club said the theme for 2009/2010 calendar is “Future of Rotary is in your Hands” and called on the members to bring new ideas and fresh enthusiasm to support the socio-economic development of needy communities. He called on his colleagues to support the two major projects of the year, which include a soup kitchen’ for the Christ Faith Foster Home at Frafraha and supporting the Otinibi educational project through debates, games and donations.

The out-going executive handed over to the newly sworn in members, made up of Miss Beatrice Baiden, Vice President, Marian Yussif, Secretary, Stephen Ampadu, Treasurer, Sadat Weidaga Gariba, Public Relations Officer and Samuel Darko, Project Service Director.
