Review documentation on NHIS in hospitals

Kuntanase (Ash), Oct 29, GNA – An appeal has gone to the National Health Insurance Board and the government to review the documentation process of the scheme in the hospitals and other health facilities to make it sustainable.

Mr Daniel Assibie, a Medical Assistant in-charge of the Kuntanase Government Hospital, who made the appeal, said although the scheme was very young, its lengthy documentation process at the hospitals was frustrating health personnel in spite of the training they had received. Speaking at a day’s training workshop for over 56 staff on safe delivery at Kuntanase on Friday, he said the documentation if not reviewed could create problems for all health personnel. The workshop was organized by the hospital on safe delivery of children and care with sponsorship from the Ghana Health Service and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Mr Assibie said the workshop was aimed at equipping the staff to enable them to be integrated into any department of the service. He urged the staff not to restrict their services to only health facilities but extend them to their areas of residence and communities in which they lived to help reduce the spread of diseases. Mrs Georgina Asuamah, a Senior Staff Midwife at the Kumasi South Hospital who was the resource person, called on health personnel to upgrade their knowledge at all times. She urged them, especially delivery staff, to be vigilant at all times since the least mistake could lead to the loss of life or deformation.
