The General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party(NPP), Kwabena Agyepong has admonished contestants who lost in last weekend’s NPP primaries in both Klottey-Korle and Okaikoi South constituencies to accept the outcome of the polls to enable the party to strategise ahead of 2016 elections.
He urged those who lost in the primaries to “respect the verdict of the grassroots people” and rally behind their opponents who won in the primaries in a move towards a solid campaign 2016.
Mr. Philip Addison, who lost his bid to become the NPP parliamentary candidate in Klottey-Korle, have accused the party of not giving a level playing field for all contestants and skewing elections to favour his competitor.
Also, Madam Vicky Bright, who a day to the election withdrew from the race has accused Mr Ahmed Arthur of fraud, saying that until he’s cleared by a court of the fraud allegations, she won’t be able to extend her support to him with regards to his campaign.
But Agyepong has maintained that the excessive electoral litigation won’t help matters for a party seeking to wrestle power from the ruling National Democratic Congress(NDC) government, hence called on them to cooperate with the party and help calm the waters in their respective constituencies.
Speaking to Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM, Mr. Agyepong stated that beyond the crave to represent the party in Parliament, party members should also be mindful that they could as well serve the party in several other capacities, besides being an MP.
“I want to clear that working for the party is not only limited to being a Member of Parliament.”
“You can serve the party in many ways; you don’t have to be a Member of Parliament to be able to serve the party.”
