Relocate our community – Chief of Oborpa

Nene Kwesi Teye, Dade Mantse of Popotia, has called for the relocation of the entire community before the proposed mining of clinker in the area begins.

He said the community has been informed that GHACEM, a cement manufacturing company, had acquired vast hectares of land in the community to establish a clinker mine.

Nene Teye said despite the fact that the quarry could create employment for the youth in the area, the mines could create a lot of dust, cracks in their buildings and even caused some to collapse as a result of the blasting of the rocks during the mining process.

He made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Popotia in the Lower Manya Municipality.

Nene Teye said the Popotia community lacks a lot of facilities like schools, portable water, electricity and a place of convenience.

He said GHACEM in collaboration with the district assembly is to construct a motorable road from Buenye to Popotia to improve the condition of roads in the area.

He said because the community did not have a school, many of the community’s children between the ages of 1 to 6 years are not in school.

Nene Teye called for the provision of a clinic for the area to cater for the health needs of the people living in the community.
