Release of Delta Force members act of foolishness – Mornah

The National Chairman of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, has expressed dissatisfaction over the release of eight Delta Force members by a Kumasi Circuit Court, saying the ruling was imprudent.

Speaking with Atinka News Thursday, he said it was sad day for the rule of law in Ghana, adding that the NPP government does not believe in the rule of law as it claims. “They say they are advocates of the rule of law, but they are rather hypocrites,” he slammed.

The PNC chair laughed off claims by the police that there was no evidence to prosecute the thugs. “How did they identify the eight accused persons before arresting them? They must have known that they were the ones who perpetrated the offence and so for them to come out and say there is no evidence linking them to the offence is quite unfortunate,” Mornah said.

A Kumasi Circuit Court on Wednesday, 17 May, struck out the case against the eight persons who aided the escape of 13 of their members arrested for assaulting Ashanti regional security coordinator George Agyei, after a court hearing.

The court, presided over by Her Honour Patricia Amponsah, discontinued the case because the prosecution said they lacked evidence against the accused persons.

However, Mornah said the evidence was all over social media and it is sad the prosecutor, ACP Okyere Darko, told the court the AG had advised that they discontinue the case due to lack of evidence.
