Red Cross Society provides well, toilets for Koniyaw community

Koniyaw (Ash), Sept. 19, GNA – The Ghana Red Cross Society at the weekend inaugurated a 25 million-cedi hand-dug well and 30 household toilets constructed at the cost of 28 million cedis for the Koniyaw community in the Amansie East District of Ashanti.

The German Red Cross and the European Union (EU) sponsored the sinking of the well and the construction of the toilet facilities. Speaking at the inauguration of the facilities, Mr Edward Garbrah, Project Manager of the Ghana Red Cross Society, noted that many diseases were contracted through contact with filth and advised the people to keep their environment clean at all times to avoid contracting such diseases.

Mr Helmut Weight, German Ambassador, charged the Ghana Red Cross Society to take good care of the facilities so as to enable them to last longer.

He expressed the hope that the first aid training acquired by the Society would help the community in their health care needs.
