Mrs Genevieve Eba Polly, Executive Director of the Ghana Book Trust, on Wednesday urged students to take reading seriously to improve their language and writing skills.
She emphasized that students should make reading a habit and make a reading plan to help them stay focused.
Mrs Polley said this at a writing workshop, organized by Insight Foundation Ghana, an NGO committed to improving research and writing skills among children. The workshop was organized based on feedback from partners.
Mr Andrew Dowuona, Director of Insight Foundation, said his organisation instituted an essay competition three years ago, to sensitize the public and create awareness on the issues of gender whiles helping female students to enhance their research and writing skills.
He announced that his organisation had received books sponsorship from the Ghana Book Trust.
This year, the writing competition will be held on October 26, on the topic: “How can Ghana as a country ensure the rights of children.”
Mr Dowouna announced that winners of this year’s competition will have an opportunity to be mentored for a year for the 2016 Girls’ Inspirer Awards to be held in March 2016.
The Foundation presented books worth GH?72,000.00 to 10 Junior High schools to stock their libraries.
