Rawlings, NDC leaders benefitting from arrested drug baron?

From Rawlings’ PNDC era to now, I want the NDC and Rawlings to come out and deny their relationship with him over the years…even now there is a top senior Army Commander under NDC who has been doing business with David Anim (the arrested drug baron),” asserts Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong.

Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong has described as misleading and inaccurate, publications in some sections of the media that he (Ken) has admitted drug barons financed the opposition party’s electoral campaign.

To him, the headline of Friday’s Edition of The Enquirer newspaper: “Arrested Drug Baron Financed NPP….Akompreko Reveals” was skewed to tarnish the image of his party (NPP).

The Enquirer published that “A leading member of the comity of braggarts and Member of Parliament for Assin Central in the Central Region has exposed his own party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), over its dealing with a drug baron.

According to the said publication, Mr. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong on Wednesday morning told the listeners of Accra-based radio station, Adom FM, that Mr. David Kwadwo Anim, the owner of the plush Le Baron Hotel at East Legon, in Accra, who has been arrested in the United Kingdom over illicit drug related issues, gave the NPP 100 motorbikes.

The pro-NDC newspaper further quoted the NPP MP as saying that Mr. Anim provided the party with 100 ‘Patriotic Bikes’ but denied that the alleged drug dealer doled out $2million to his party.

Mr. Agyapong confirmed again that Mr. Anim is his friend and would never deny that.”

Admitting to the fact that Mr. David Kwadwo Anim gave 100 motorbikes to support the cause of NPP’s campaign, the outspoken NPP MP, however, sought to straighten the records on “Adeakye Abea” on Okay Fm that the arrested drug baron did not finance NPP as The Enquirer newspaper publication suggested.

Whiles acknowledging that Mr. Anim is his friend, the Assin Central MP shocked listeners when he claimed former President Jerry John Rawlings and some bigwigs of the ruling party have since the days of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) through to the present NDC II regime, been benefitting from the largesse of the arrested drug baron.

“It is true that David Anim gave NPP 100 motorbikes during our campaign and I will not deny that fact, but I want to tell the newspaper to publish also those NDC leaders and the National Security Capos who have been carrying their girlfriends to his (Anim’s) Le Baron Hotel at East Legon. From Rawlings’ PNDC era to now, I want the NDC and Rawlings to come out and openly deny their relationship with him over the years…even now there is a top senior Army Commander under NDC who has been doing business with David Anim. It is true that the drug baron gave 100 motorbikes to support NPP but can Rawlings and NDC leaders be bold enough to tell Ghanaians the support they are still enjoying from the drug baron?” he dared.
