Kumasi, Nov. 29, GNA- The Parent Teacher Association
(PTA) of the Dadease Agric Senior High School (SHS) in the Sekyere
Afram Plains District of Ashanti Region has inaugurated a 40,000
Ghana Cedis infrastructure for the school on Friday. The projects included a six unit classroom block, dual
teachers’ bungalow and an Information Communication Technology
(ICT) Centre. The School, popularly known as DASS, also took
advantage of the occasion to inaugurate its army cadet corps. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Joseph Kwabena Onyinah,
the Regional Director of Education, said, education is a social
enterprise which demands efforts and contributions from all
stakeholders, especially, parents and teachers, if it is to benefit the
whole society. He recalled that, communities had played vital roles in the
provision and development of educational infrastructure as well as
other facilities, saying, many schools were originally initiated by
communities but later absorbed into the public system. Mr. Onyinah stressed that, since then, management and
control of the schools shifted to central government authorities and
the communities tended to be less involved. The Regional Director of Education therefore urged
communities to go back to their first love, by being committed to
supporting the schools. However, he advised them against interfering with the work
of the headmasters which would not augur well for the progress of the
school. Mr. Odame-Aboagye, Chairman of the PTA explained that,
the funds for the projects were generated from PTA dues. He recounted the achievements of the Association as the
provision of 300 mono desks, furnishing of staff common room and
the Headmaster’s office, a fence wall, girls’ dormitory among others,
adding that, other projects such as a 15 classroom block storey
building and other extensions would be inaugurated soon. Mr. Paul Kenneth Dwobeng the Headmaster of DASS
charged the members of the community and other stakeholders to support the school’s expansion in order to enable it carry out the
four-year Educational Reform. He noted that a great disservice would be done to Junior
High School graduates who would be deny admission to SHS due to
inadequate infrastructure, saying, expansion should be done in the
school to accommodate all those who qualify. Nana Dr. Kwao Ababio III, Chief of Dadease,
Commissioning the projects thanked the Association for its gesture. The ceremony attracted stakeholders, among whom were
the Member of Parliament for Kumawu, Mr. Yaw Baah, a represented of the District Chief Executive, Mr. Philip Basoa who later made
