Protect women from all forms of violence

Okanta (E/R), May 20, GNA – The East Akim District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mr Franklin Boafo, has reiterated the need to protect women from all forms of violence to enable them enjoy their equal liberty as men.

Speaking at a public forum on violence against women at Okanta, near Kibi on Wednesday, he called for respect for women in the society instead of discriminating against them.

The forum, organised by the East Akim secretariat of NCCE, forms part of a series of educational programmes embarked upon by the Commission to educate the people on government policies and programmes. Mr Boafo appealed to women to be actively involved in the political activities of the country to enable them enter Parliament and participate in the decision-making process.

He urged couples to see themselves as social partners in human development and ensure that they invest in the education of their children, especially the girl-child, and desist from spending more of their monies on personal effects.

He advised political parties to educate the electorate on their manifestoes. They should also tolerate each other’s views for peaceful elections in December to sustain the country’s young democracy. 20 May 04
