Prez Mahama: I’ve the will to fight corruption

President John Mahama has said he has the political will needed to fight corruption in the country.

The President, however, says he cannot fight the canker alone if Ghanaians refuse to play their part as citizens.

Speaking to a cross section of Ghanaians in the US on the sidelines of the 69th UN General assembly, Mr Mahama said it takes a national effort to fight corruption.

“A member of parliament of my own party is before the court as I speak today, how many governments in the past will have the courage to prosecute their own people” the president quizzed.

He added: “Often governments won’t investigate corruption because if you investigate, it creates the perception that there is a lot of corruption but I believe that the first step in dealing with corruption is exposing them.

“If allegations come up, I will I have the courage to investigate them. And if I investigate them, let the sanctions fall where they will fall. Corruption is not the duty of only the leader, it’s the responsibility of all of us”

He said he is willing and ready to fight the menace but needs the support of all Ghanaians

“I have the will to fight it but you need the support of everybody to join in the fight against corruption”.
