Kumasi, May 26, GNA – The Atta Mills Foundation, a pro-democracy non-governmental organization (NGO), has hailed the United States (US) President Barrack Obama’s planned visit to Ghana.
It said the visit was a good omen for Ghana’s fledgling democracy and that as an emerging economy, his stay in the country and political discourse with stakeholders would help deepen the nation’s social cohesion, political stability and democratic dispensation. This was contained in a statement signed by Togbui Mawufeame Fugah, Life Patron of the Foundation, and issued in Kumasi on Monday. The statement urged the government to take full advantage of the visit by liaising with their US counterparts effectively in most sectors of the economy to advance the nation’s development and as a means of strengthening the already good relationship with the US. “In the wake of the global economic recession, we hope the US government would resolve to continue to open more economic opportunities in the areas of agriculture, health, education and infrastructure development through dialogue”.
It cautioned politicians and opinion leaders not to politicize President Obama’s planned visit which was the first to any sub-Saharan African country.
The Foundation praised the Mills administration for being transparent, accountable and people-centred in its few months of governance.
