Premix is community owned – DCE

Akwidaa (W/R), Sept 3, GNA – Mr. Joseph Amoah, District Chief Executive of the Ahanta West District in the Western Region on Wednesday cautioned against the monopolisation of the sale of premix fuel in fishing communities.

“The sale of premix fuel should be community owned so that you can use the proceeds, after any deductions and payments to government, to facilitate local development”, he told community members. Mr Amoah said this when he inaugurated a five-member Beach Landing Committee, charged with the responsibility of the sale of premix in Akwidaa and Dixcove respectively.

He called on the committee members to be truthful in their transactions in order to avert any possible debt, but rather manage the resources well to the benefit of all.

Members of the Committee are Ekra Panyin, Chief Fisherman, Ransford Arthur, Hannah Cudjoe, Hayford Asijoe and Nyamekye Ade. Mr. Amoah noted that the district had also set-up a 20-member Eco-Brigade Tourism team to check on in sanitary behaviours at the district’s shores.

“This is to maintain a clean beach front and promote eco-tourism which will eventually earn the district some revenue for development,” he said.

Residents in turn called on government to accelerate development in the two communities through the provision of potable drinking water, markets, health post, sea defence as well as creating employment opportunities.
