PPP gathers signatures to get EC to overturn Nduom’s disqualification

The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) is gathering signatures for the Electoral Commission to reinstate Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom’s candidature in the December polls following his disqualification by the Electoral Commission.

The petition, set up by the party states: “Petition by Ghanaians eligible to vote demand that the Electoral Commission accepts the nomination papers of Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom”.

Launched on the party’s website, the page has seen an influx of over 70 signatories as passionate followers of the business magnate seek to put pressure on the EC to rescind its decision.

The Charlotte Osei-led EC on Monday disqualified 13 out of the 17 aspirants who filed nominations to contest in the 2016 general elections, provoking an instant anger among those affected.

Others are Dr Edward Nasigiri Mahama of the People’s National Congress (PNC); Nana Agyenim Boateng, popularly known as Gyataba, United Front Party (UFP); Kofi Akpaloo, Independent People’s Party (IPP); Kwabena Adjei, Reformed Democratic Party (RDP); Henry Lartey, Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) and Richard Nixon Tetteh, Unity Development System Party (UDSP).

The embattled presidential candidate after his disqualification requested for a five minute meeting with the EC in the hope of overturning the decision.

Dr Nduom filed a writ at the Supreme Court on Friday demanding an order of prohibition to restrain the EC from proceeding with the balloting for position of presidential candidates for the elections, after his abortive meeting with the EC.
