Politicians urged to support new EC boss

The Eastern Regional Women’s Organizer of the Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), Ms Rosina Cofie has called on all stakeholders in Ghanaian politics and the entire country to support the newly-appointed chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) to discharge her role successfully.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview, Ms Cofie congratulated Mrs Charlotte Osei on her new appointment and advised her to be accommodating to all political parties and exhibit fairness but be firm in her work.

She reminded EC Chair of the challenges that were likely to confront her, such as sabotage and leg-pulling, but encouraged her not to let such challenges to distract her from her focus.

Ms Cofie advised the first female EC Chairperson to manage all pressure from the political parties as they would try to manipulate her to create lapses in her work.

She was hopeful the credibility, competence and background of the new EC chairperson would play a vital role in ensuring that her work would be above board and unquestionable.
